57 The king and the secret queen. The company’s fate increasingly lies in the hands of the next generation, two of whom already sit on our Management Board. This is a stroke of real good fortune for a small family business like ours, steeped in tradition as it is – as much as 172 years after its origin and now presiding over a growing worldwide family of companies. Although the customer may remain the king, the company itself is the secret queen. Of course, we do not know what the future holds. However, if it is at all like our past, then we will grasp it with the same passion, commit- ment and confidence as we always have done and, above all, continuously learning. Learning from people, whether they are employees, customers or end users, and also learning about a material that still has great potential for exciting developments and new products that can make all our lives better, safer, simpler and tidier: plastic. We shall see.
