This learning process then benefited our broad customer base, which has represen- tatives from just about every industrial sector, for instance in the pharmaceutical, automotive, aviation and drinks industries, to name but a few. And thanks to this broad base our skills and knowledge grew, creating the sound foun- dations we use today to provide our customers with wide-ranging advice and assistance. So we began creating our own products under our house brand, which we sell with pride and have integrated into our wider family as if they were our own children. All this manifests itself in our skills and knowledge and originates from our fundamental curiosity about how things can be improved – although improvement is of course not possible in every case. Take the handkerchief, for example. Though maybe you could come up with something in plastic ... or perhaps we should let that be and agree with Einstein, who tellingly pointed out that ‘Every- thing should be as simple as possible. But no simpler.’ We wish you a lot of fun reading this book! A broad base ensures solidity. Making the transition from a classical contract manufacturer who makes the impossible possi- ble for its customers to an injection moulder producing a high proportion of its own branded goods, and with its own marketing department and sales operations, was only possible thanks to the support of our customers. The jobs we were asked to do were so varied, and sometimes so unusual, that we were forced time and again to stretch our creativity to the limits, as well as drawing on a steady stream of new findings about material behaviour in terms of tempera- ture, moisture, electricity and dye admixtures, to name just a few of the possible variables. We came to realise what an organic, almost living material we were dealing with, and at times our knowledge of it grew almost by the
