4 Process 32 Procedure The electrical or hydraulic drive of the injec- tion unit (A) impels the rotation of the screw in the injection cylinder (D). The granulate (B) and any additive (C), such as dye or anti-static, is drawn in by the rotating motion, homogene- ously mixed together and steadily heated up in the injection cylinder (D). At a temperature of 230°C to 350°C, the molten plastic at the front end of the injection cylinder (E) is ready. The injection mould comprises the mould cavity (F) and the mould core (I). The injection- moulding machine controls their opening and closing. The required volume of plastic is injected hydraulically into the cavity with the mould closed (F/I). The molten plastic cools and hardens and assumes the desired rigidity and shape. The injection-moulding machine’s ejector (J) opens the mould core. The moulded part is pneumatically sucked out by the extractor (G), removed and finally placed on the conveyor belt. J A B C D E F H I G 4
