28 Coming full circle with the sealing ring. The sealing ring, that insignificant-seeming closure device on billions of drink bottles with aluminium screw tops, in fact has to satisfy stringent requirements. No doubt you are fami- liar with this little fellow: embedded in the metal top, the moment you twist the top it breaks in precisely three places, rather than disintegrating into thousands of tiny pieces, thus giving access to the precious liquid. Insignificant refers here to safety, taste and smell aspects. Safety you can hear: it makes a clearly audible popping sound – a good sign. Not for nothing is the sealing ring therefore refer- red to by those in the know as the ‘freshness seal’ that guarantees fresh, unspoiled contents. The sealing ring is our long-term mainstay, and at over 1.3 billion rings a year (that’s 32 rings every three seconds, per machine) it is our most-produced item. Depending on capacity and time of year, production runs on eight to ten machines simultaneously. To ensure that our seal of freshness also gets the in-house Allit quality seal, production batches of rings are continually tested according to precise specifications: just one example of our constructive, trust-based relationship with a customer we have been working with since 1994. And we feel a moment of pride every time a bottle goes ‘pop’. The sealing ring – the seal of freshness for all self-respecting drink bottles.
